This is a Picture of the Navy side of Dong Tam. Several buildings have been identified in the table below. If you were in Dong Tam and can help identify any buildings or locations on this map, please email me.
As mentioned on a previous Dong Tam page on this site I spoke of harassing mortar attacks while I was there from Nov. - Feb. 1969. On one occasion, I was headed out of the my hooch (Building 19) to chow in the evening. At the point of location M2 on the above pic, the first mortar exploded at location M1. I started running toward the bunker at location 11 and just as I rounded the corner of Building 12, the second mortar exploded at the exact spot (M2) where I was standing when the first mortar exploded. Had the order been reversed, this web site wouldn't be here for you to see. After going back and looking at that hole in the road, I wanted out of Vietnam as quickly as possible. I certainly didn't want to be one of those killed in the last month of his tour. My mental attitude changed significantly at that time. My rationalization and fatalistic attitude which had served me well during the first 3/4's of my tour suddenly changed to one of "look out for your butt and survive."
